Surfshark, a leading cybersecurity company, recently announced the expansion of its Dedicated IP service to seven new locations, bringing the total number of available locations to 20 worldwide.

The global VPN market is experiencing significant growth, with an estimated value of $71.66 billion in 2025, according to The Business Research Company representing a 16.7% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2024.

A large portion of internet users—estimated at 1.75 billion globally—now utilise VPNs to enhance their online privacy and security. However, while VPN adoption is widespread, daily or near-daily usage remains less common

With VPN use on the rise SurfShark’s significant expansion provides users with reliable access to IP-sensitive services while minimising the frustrating human verification requests that often occur when using shared IP addresses.

The expanded service ensures users maintain a consistent IP address each time they connect through a designated VPN server, addressing a common pain point for those who frequently encounter verification challenges when accessing online services.

VPN (Virtual Private Network) Technology

Surfshark Sr. Product Manager explains VPN’s & Dedicated IPs

For users wondering what does a VPN do, Virtual Private Network technology creates a secure, encrypted connection between a user’s device and the internet.

VPNs protect user privacy, mask their location, and provide secure access to online services, particularly when using public networks or accessing geo-restricted content.

Using a dedicated IP with your VPN is beneficial because it provides a consistent, private address that’s exclusively yours.

It also lowers the risk of blacklisting and makes it easier to access services that typically restrict or flag frequently changing IPs, such as online banking and remote work platforms.

“Dedicated IP acts as a permanent, individual address on the internet that offers a more stable and reliable VPN (Virtual Private Network) experience says Surfshark Sr. Product Manager Justas Pukys,

“Unlike shared IP addresses, which may be used by hundreds of users at once and often trigger human verification requests, a Dedicated IP can significantly reduce such disruptions.,” said Pukys

“It also enhances secure access to platforms that require consistent identification, such as remote servers or banking services, and minimises exposure to the risks commonly associated with shared IP usage,” he said.

Strategic Expansion to 7 Key Global Markets

The seven new Dedicated IP locations include:

  • United States: Denver, New York, Las Vegas
  • Brazil: São Paulo
  • Poland: Warsaw
  • Singapore: Singapore
  • Turkey: Istanbul

The additions complement Surfshark’s existing 13 Dedicated IP locations, which include the US (San Jose, Los Angeles, Dallas), Canada (Toronto), the UK (London), the Netherlands (Amsterdam), Germany (Frankfurt), France (Paris), Italy (Milan), Japan (Tokyo), Hong Kong (Hong Kong), Australia (Sydney), and South Africa (Johannesburg).

Growing Demand Drives Expansion

According to J. Pukys, demand for Dedicated IP addresses is rapidly increasing, particularly in major cities worldwide. To meet this need, the company has added seven new locations to its network, bringing this feature closer to users in key regions around the world.

In April, Surfshark also launched a privacy-oriented public DNS service, further expanding its cybersecurity portfolio and reinforcing its commitment to providing users with secure, surveillance-free internet access.

Unlike the default DNS servers provided by ISPs (Internet Service Providers), which often track and record user activity, Surfshark’s new public DNS server ensures privacy by not logging browsing history, data transfers, or any other internet behavior.

According to Karolis Kaciulis, Leading System Engineer at Surfshark the initiative reflects the company’s dedication to the privacy community and addresses the increasing demand for trustworthy, privacy-first DNS solutions

“By offering a free, privacy-oriented DNS service, we are not only seeking Surfshark’s commitment to make the internet a safer place for everyone but also encouraging individuals, organisations, as well as NGOs to take their first steps towards enhancing online privacy,”

“Our DNS service is designed with both stable connectivity and privacy in mind, offering a robust network that doesn’t store or track personal data, giving users a private, seamless browsing experience,” said Kaciulis

VPN Use Surges in Australia Amid Rising Cyber Threats

As digital privacy concerns intensify, more Australians are turning to virtual private networks (VPNs) to protect their online activity. Recent data shows VPN usage in the country is on a steady rise, even as cybercriminals increasingly target these security tools.

56% of organisations globally experienced at least one VPN-related cyber threat in 2024 reflecting the growing sophistication of attacks exploiting VPN vulnerabilities.

Despite the risks, VPNs remain a key pillar of online privacy in Australia’s digital landscape. Surveys found that 27.1% of Australians used VPN services in 2023 — a modest increase over years before.

Interestingly, while six in ten Australians are aware of VPNs, only about a quarter actively use them, suggesting that digital privacy isn’t yet a priority for the majority of the population.

While global interest in free VPNs is waning, Australia is bucking the trend — but not without concern. Recent figures show that 25.7% of Aussie VPN users still rely on free services, despite mounting evidence that these options often come at the cost of privacy, not price.

Meanwhile, around 19.9% are using corporate VPNs — another sign of a cultural pivot toward more secure, enterprise-grade browsing habits.

According to auDa 2024 report, 27% of Australian consumers and 36% of small businesses use VPNs. These high adoption rates suggest Aussies trust VPNs as actionable safety blankets from online threats.
