Peacock Bros., a leading provider of supply chain technology, printing, and labelling solutions, has announced the successful deployment of an advanced RFID tracking solution for a global leader in information management and storage.

The solution dramatically enhances the efficiency of locating high-value and sensitive files and documents within expansive storage facilities.

The information management company serves hundreds of thousands of customers across an extensive network of facilities worldwide.

Their comprehensive services, spanning secure document storage, digital transformation, data protection and destruction, are vital for businesses navigating complex compliance and privacy landscapes.

The partnership with Peacock Bros. marks a significant leap forward in document management and secure storage operations, bringing a new level of efficiency to the client’s operations across Australia and New Zealand.

Previously reliant on a time-consuming document location system requiring a two-person operation involving a forklift, the client identified strong potential for improved service delivery within their Australian operations.

The organisation noted that managing inventory across sites containing millions of boxes presented a significant logistical challenge.

In sectors like healthcare and legal services, where rapid access to records is critical, their existing system, with storage racks reaching extreme vertical heights and extending below ground level, made scanning a complex and resource-intensive task.

To address this, they approached Peacock Bros., who proposed an integrated RFID solution combining advanced hardware and software capable of accurately locating a tagged box among millions, even when stored four deep in the racking.

“Our goal was to develop a solution that wasn’t just about leveraging technology for the sake of innovation, but truly addressing the practical needs of rapid, accurate, and safe document retrieval,” said George Pecchiar, Executive Director CTS at Peacock Bros.

“We proposed an integrated solution supported by the Zebra TC21 Handheld device, an Android-based unit used in conjunction with the Zebra RFD90 RFID Sled.”

“This choice was driven by our commitment to offer a solution that was both powerful and user-friendly, enabling operators to swiftly locate tagged boxes with increasing accuracy as they move closer.”

Equipped with the Zebra TC21 fitted with the RFD90 RFID reader, operators are now able to easily find tagged boxes, with the device emitting sound notifications more frequently as they approach the target.

The system not only reduced the manpower required for inventory tracking but also mitigated the risks associated with the previous approach, offering a safer and more efficient alternative.

“Our RFID system introduces a simple yet highly effective approach, boxes filled with vital documents have RFID tags attached, which are easily scanned and located with a cutting-edge handheld device, streamlining the entire search process to just one person,” added Pecchiar.

With the Peacock Bros. solution in place, the organisation has streamlined its document retrieval process, turning a job that previously required two operators into a task one person can efficiently handle.

Initially offered as a premium service to select customers, the success of the RFID solution has led to its standardisation across all customer engagements in Australia and New Zealand, with further expansion into additional global markets now under consideration.
