The Victorian Government has selected the Port of Hastings as the preferred site for the new Victorian Renewable Energy Terminal, a key component in the state’s efforts to expand its renewable energy capacity.

The terminal will focus on supporting offshore wind energy projects by providing specialized infrastructure for the assembly, storage, and shipment of wind turbines and foundation components.

Located at the Old Tyabb Reclamation Area (OTRA) within the Port of Hastings precinct, the terminal aims to become a critical hub for the offshore wind industry.

Its development is expected to play a significant role in advancing Victoria’s transition to cleaner energy, supporting the growing demand for offshore wind energy infrastructure, and helping the state meet its ambitious renewable energy targets.

To ensure the project’s environmental impact is thoroughly assessed, the Victorian Minister for Planning has mandated an Environment Effects Statement (EES) under the Environment Effects Act 1978.

The Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) has prepared draft scoping requirements outlining the key areas to be investigated in the EES. These include potential impacts on local ecosystems, marine environments, biodiversity, and the surrounding community.

The scoping document also highlights the need to assess mitigation strategies to address any negative effects identified during the review process.

This consultation period provides an important opportunity for a wide range of stakeholders, including local residents, environmental groups, businesses, and other interested parties, to offer their input.

Their feedback will help shape the final EES, ensuring the development of the Victorian Renewable Energy Terminal aligns with Victoria’s commitment to sustainable growth and environmental responsibility.

How To Get Involved

Review the draft scoping requirements and provide your feedback by midnight, 11 December 2024.

To learn more about the EES process, visit the Department of Transport and Planning website.
