Plain English Foundation, Australia’s leading provider of plain language training and editing services, has 3 new services that help organisations govern their workplace AI and use it efficiently.
Plain English Foundation has introduced these new services to help organisations set clear AI rules, improve AI-generated content and build staff writing capability through training.
For over 23 years, Plain English Foundation has helped government agencies – including the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, DFAT and Services Australia – write clearly. The Foundation is now applying that same expertise to AI.
New services include:
- 2 workshops for smarter, more efficient AI use in workplace writing
- AI governance framework service – we develop policy and procedure and use guidelines in collaboration with clients
- AI content editing and review.
What Plain English Foundation’s survey shows
Research tells us that Australian organisations are increasingly using AI to write emails, policies, reports and customer communications. A Plain English Foundation survey of 289 professionals from government, private sector and not-for-profit organisations, shows that:
- almost 90% of respondents use generative AI at least once a month
- one in 3 use it every day
- only 21.1% have completed training on how to use it well.
Without clear guidance, the quality and consistency of workplace communication can vary significantly.
Smarter AI workshops deliver clear communication outcomes
Plain English Foundation has 2 new workshops:
- Smarter AI for Workplace Writing – for professionals who use AI for their workplace communication
- Smarter AI for Ministerial and Policy Writing – for government, policy and executive teams who use AI to support decision-making writing.
Both workshops train participants to:
- write effective prompts
- spot and remove AI-generated inaccuracy
- humanise AI content
- improve clarity.
Plain English Foundation delivers workshops face-to-face or online and can customise a client’s workshop using their brand guidelines, writing and style guide, templates and specific communication challenges.
AI governance helps you manage risk
Plain English Foundation experts can develop AI guardrails, policy and procedure and use guidelines that reflect their clients’ needs.
The documents are designed to help staff use AI consistently, responsibly and in line with their organisation’s expectations. The Foundation can assist with the creation of:
- governance framework – defines how the organisation oversees AI, manages risk and maintains human oversight and accountability
- policy and procedure – determine the organisation’s specific rules around AI use and the steps staff must follow when creating content using AI
- use guidelines – offer practical, day-to-day advice on best practice, how to write a good prompt and how to check AI outputs before publishing.
AI content review and editing service upgrades workplace communication
Plain English Foundation also edits and reviews AI-generated communication so it’s crisp, clear and accurate and hits the right tone. The Foundation’s experienced editors can:
- edit content to ensure it is error-free and reads like a human wrote it
- improve the tone of customer service communication
- cut the repetition in reports and internal documents
- ensure AI-drafted learning materials actually teach, not just inform.
“We know Australian workers are increasingly using AI in their day-to-day tasks. But there is a big difference between using AI and using it well.” said Ayisha Tufail, Chief Operating Officer – Professional Capability at Lumify Group.
“When organisations give staff practical training on how to better prompt AI, it can help them generate stronger AI outputs and deliver better quality work,”
“Furthermore, by giving staff clear guidance on how to use AI, organisations can ensure they maintain quality and consistency across all their communication.”
