NEXTDC has announced a $100 million plan to build a new data centre in Adelaide.
The A1 data centre is to be up to 10 megawatts of power and certified as a Level IV facility by the Uptime Institute with direct interconnection available to customers.
Located at 211 Pirie Street, the facility will provide 10 MW of critical power and cloud connectivity, as well as mission-critical operating rooms (MCX), providing highly secure and customisable office space designed to house essential staff and ensure business continuity.
The facility will be engineered to have NABERS five-star energy efficiency.
NEXTDC chief executive Craig Scroggie said the company was selected by the City of Adelaide to develop the Pirie Street site.
“We are honoured to have been selected by the City of Adelaide to develop this strategic site into a new world-class technology centre of excellence. We are excited to be a part of the growing ecosystem of leading technology companies that are investing in the South Australian economy,” Scroggie said.
“Our partnership with the South Australian Government was instrumental in developing our long-term strategy to support the growth of the state.
South Australian premier Steven Marshall said the new facility will be included in cooperation plans with the state’s universities.

A spokesperson said we don’t have the details for the [number of] racks at this stage but will be able to confirm more once the design is finalised.
The infrastructure provider is expanding as demand for data centres in Australia has soared.
Last year, NEXTDC announced plans to build its first data centre, D1, in the Northern Territory capital, Darwin.
With 14 existing data centres located across Australia, NEXTDC focuses on sustainability through renewable energy sources. Its corporate operations have been certified carbon neutral under the Australian government’s active carbon neutral standard.
It also launched a network of Edge data centres on the Sunshine Coast in December.
