Cisco and General Motors Cooperate to Modernise Vehicle Development Data Processing

General Motors is the first auto manufacturer to deploy Cisco wireless backhaul technology for real-time, high-speed performance testing of pre-production vehicles.

Cisco and General Motors are working together to modernise and automate the development data development process for performance test vehicles, accelerating the time to market for market-ready vehicles.

GM test engineers use Cisco’s wireless network architecture for live pre-production performance testing at the GM Milford Proving Ground to monitor several hundred data channels simultaneously, to observe vehicle operation parameters and modify the test as it is being conducted, Cisco said.

Using the Cisco Wireless Network Architecture for real-time pre-production testing at GM’s Milford proving ground allows multiple GM test engineers to actively monitor hundreds of data channels simultaneously during a test run, monitor vehicle performance, and modify the test as it goes. . carried out to optimize the results.

Since deploying Cisco Ultra-Reliable Wireless Backhaul for vehicle-to-lane connectivity, GM engineers now capture data from vehicle sensors during real-time performance testing and tune the vehicle on the track, streamlining the process and enabling to save time. GM is the first automaker to use this methodology, which can significantly reduce testing time, Cisco said.

Cisco’s wireless backhaul technology combines the reliability and speed of fiber optic connections with the flexibility of wireless communication. Provides speeds up to 500Mbps with ultra-low latency, broadband wireless connectivity with seamless switching, and private mobile connectivity for mission-critical applications.

“As GM accelerates the shift to electric vehicles, every minute counts,” said Anthony Bolton, CIO & CTO, Global Telecommunication & End-Use Services, Infrastructure & Development, General Motors.

“Using the network and its data to accelerate our performance testing is the type of innovation that delivers real business value as we transition from automaker to platform innovator.” he said

Cisco’s industrial IoT networking portfolio includes a variety of wireless methods such as Wi-Fi, cellular 4G/5G, LoRaWAN and wireless backhaul.
