SpaceX’s Starlink has announced it now has over 1,000,000 active subscribers worldwide since its initial lauch of several different types of services over the past year.

Starlink launched several different types of services over the past year and has connected thousands of users in different modes of transportation.

In 2022, SpaceX released services for a variety of transportation needs, including Starlink Aviation for airplanes, Starlink for recreational vehicles, Starlink Starshield for governmental entities, as well as a separate service for boats.

Both the Ukrainian military and the Pentagon in the US have applauded Starlink. Ukrainian soldiers reported that Starlink facilitated communication between military units and civilians and their families during the conflict with Russia. This was especially beneficial when the Russian forces attacked Ukraine’s communication networks.

Starlink thanked the customers and members of the Starlink team who contributed to the 1 million active subscribers milestone

Last Month Starlink became available across all of Australia, enabling customers to order the service country-wide.

Internet users throughout Australia can now subscribe to a Starlink plan, after the company announced that its satellite internet has become available across the nation.

Starlink, users can engage in activities that historically have not been possible with satellite internet. It’s high-speed, low-latency service is made possible via the world’s largest constellation of highly advanced satellites operating in a low orbit around the Earth.

Access to the Starlink plans is now available everywhere in the Australia. Before this, the service was only available in certain areas, including the lack of access to the Northern Territory.

New customers who signup for a Starlink service before the end of the year can save over 50% off the cost of Starlink hardware which will bring the hardware fee to $450, down from $924.

Starlink’s sole consumer plan is currently billed at $139 per month with unlimited data. However, Starlink has started imposing a 1TB cap on plans in the United States.

After exceeding 1TB, US customers can keep using their service with no excess fees but the service speed will be shaped leading to slower speeds during busy hours.

Customers signed up on residential plan are expected to receive service speeds between 20Mbps and 100Mbps,

Initially Elon Musk said Starlink received more than 500,000 preorders for its Starlink satellite internet service and anticipated there would be no technical problems with meeting the demand.

The Pentagon was impressed with Starlink’s ability to maintain connectivity in remote areas, specifically in the Artic.

A principal aerospace engineer at the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Strategic Development and Experimentation office Brian Beal said “We have started testing high-rate connectivity to very remote Arctic bases.”

This month, SpaceX made a request to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to equip its second-generation Starlink satellites with direct-to-cellular hardware. Previously, it also approved the company’s Starlink Gen2 application for the deployment of 7,500 satellites.

In November Elon Musk said the company had manufactured 1 million terminals, approximately two years after the service launched.

“As more subscribers are now coming online users have noted individual speeds have declined – something that is expected to improve with further satellite launches,” said Mr Musk.

By 2024 it’s estimated there will be 11,927 Starlink satellites orbiting the globe at seven different altitudes.
