OneTeam IT is celebrating five years since its formation on 1 July 2021, marking a milestone built on more than four decades of helping Australian organisations navigate an ever-evolving technology landscape.
Established in 2021 through the merger of Team Computing Australia Pty Ltd and Sundata, OneTeam IT brought together two respected Australian technology businesses with a shared vision: providing customers with broader expertise, deeper technical capability and exceptional service.
While plans for the merger were originally scheduled to be completed a year earlier, the COVID-19 pandemic delayed the process until July 2021.
The successful integration reflected the determination of both organisations to build something stronger for their customers and employees.
Managing Director of Team Computing and then OneTeam, Peter Sanderson, remembers, “We knew it could be a risk merging during COVID, but the cultures of the two businesses were so positive, and well aligned, that we pressed the button in 2021 with real sense of confidence.”
As Australia’s technology landscape evolved, so too did customer expectations. Organisations increasingly required broader skills across infrastructure, software, cybersecurity, cloud and managed services, together with trusted advisers who understood their businesses.
Bringing Team Computing and Sundata together created a stronger national organisation with the scale, expertise and geographic reach to meet those changing needs.
Today, OneTeam IT employs approximately 60 specialists supporting organisations across Australia from offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
Since commercial computing began transforming business with innovations such as IBM’s System/360 in the 1960s, technology has continually reshaped the way organisations operate.
From the shift from mainframes to personal computing, fourth-generation programming languages (4GLs), the Y2K transition and the dot-com era, through cloud computing, cybersecurity, digital transformation and now artificial intelligence, Team Computing and Sundata – and today OneTeam IT – have been helping Australian organisations adapt through more than half the history of the commercial IT industry.
Despite the pace of technological change, OneTeam IT’s purpose has remained unchanged: helping organisations achieve better business outcomes through practical expertise, trusted advice and long-term partnerships.
Founder and Director Kon Kakanis says the company’s greatest achievement wasn’t simply its longevity, but the relationships it had built and maintained over four decades.
“We’ve preserved long-term relationships with staff and customers through enormous industry change,” said Mr Kakanis. “That continuity is something special.”
Those relationships have been forged not only through technological change, but also during some of Australia’s most challenging moments.
During the devastating Brisbane floods in 2011, Sundata staff worked alongside customers to recover critical systems, helping clean flooded offices and restore technology so businesses could resume operations as quickly as possible.
“It was one of those moments that really showed who we were,” Mr Kakanis said. “You had to be there.”
Today, artificial intelligence represents the next wave of change. While AI is creating new opportunities for innovation and productivity, organisations continue to rely on secure, resilient and reliable technology foundations to keep their businesses operating every day.
