The Pause Awards, now in their seventh year, celebrate the nation’s most ambitious and impactful innovators. This year, 79 finalists competed across five categories, with 34 winners selected for their groundbreaking contributions to industries ranging from technology to sustainability.

A Step Forward in Eco-Conscious GiftingA Bright Future Ahead

Bill Fairies stood out as a standout winner for its ability to offer a practical, meaningful, and eco-conscious solution to the age-old problem of gift giving.

The company was presented with the I Wish I’d Done That Award for their creative approach to tackling everyday challenges, and the Overall Winner of the People’s Choice Award for their widespread impact and popularity. These recognitions highlight Bill Fairies’ role as a trailblazer in both the gift-giving and Australian innovation ecosystems.

Bill Fairies is revolutionising the concept of gifting with its innovative online platform that helps people pay their bills.

Offering vouchers that can be redeemed across more than 21,000 billers and spanning a wide range of categories—including electricity and gas, utilities and insurance, school fees, home and car repairs, and even moving and relocation services—the platform provides a modern alternative to traditional gifts.

Whether for birthdays, corporate rewards, charitable support, or special occasions, Bill Fairies makes it easier for people to give what truly matters: practical support for the recipient’s daily life.

“We’re incredibly proud to receive these prestigious awards, which reflect the incredible work of our team and the vision that drives us forward,” said Sophia Symeou, Co-Founder of Bill Fairies.

“At Bill Fairies, we aim to make gift-giving more meaningful and relevant by helping people pay their bills—a truly practical and impactful way to show care. These awards are a testament to the belief that a gift doesn’t have to be material to be appreciated.” Symeou said.

Co-Founder Jenny Ghobrial said, “The recognition from the Pause Awards, particularly the People’s Choice Award, really highlights the positive response we’ve received from the public.

“Our platform was created to meet a real need, and we’re so pleased that people have embraced it, not just as a gift option, but as a solution that promotes sustainability and reduces waste.” she said.

A Step Forward in Eco-Conscious Gifting

What makes Bill Fairies even more unique is its commitment to eco-conscious gifting. The vouchers offered by Bill Fairies leave no waste or carbon footprint, aligning with modern values of sustainability and responsible living.

In a world where traditional gift-giving often leads to excess packaging and unwanted products, Bill Fairies offers a thoughtful, sustainable alternative.

“We’re thrilled to be part of a growing movement that’s redefining what it means to give gifts,” said Symeou. “With Bill Fairies, you’re not only giving something practical, but you’re also contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future.”

Sonia Clarke, Chair of the Judging Board and Principal of Clever Manka, praised the high calibre of entries: “The quality of applicants was incredibly high this year, and the winners were as tough to select as ever.

“The entries that really stood out were solving a genuine problem in a new and creative way — but more than that, they moved beyond a great idea to delivering quantifiable and meaningful impact. Some of this year’s winners are on track to become household names.”

A Bright Future Ahead

With these two prestigious awards and their win of the Atlassian Women in Tech Social Impact Award earlier this year, Bill Fairies has cemented its position as a leader in both innovation and sustainability.

As the company continues to develop its platform and roll out new features, it remains focused on expanding its impact and offering an even more seamless gifting experience.

“We’re just getting started,” said Ghobrial. “With our new website coming soon and plans for further innovation on the horizon, we’re excited about what the future holds,”

“Our mission to simplify gifting while helping people during this cost of living crisis will continue to guide us as we grow.”

George Hedon, Founder and CEO of the Pause Awards, praised this year’s winners, particularly Bill Fairies, for demonstrating a customer-centric approach and forward-thinking ambition.

“In today’s fast-changing landscape, Bill Fairies exemplifies the kind of innovation that breaks through adversity. They’re leading the charge in redefining gifting, and we’re excited to see where they go next.”
