Werribee and Melbourne’s outer western suburbs will be serviced across 296 square kilometres, improving connectivity for 89,000 homes and businesses between 2023 and 2026

The Andrews Labor Government is investing in new mobile towers and upgrades to existing towers in Tarneit and the surrounding western suburbs of Melbourne to improve mobile connectivity.

Coverage areas will include:

  • Werribee
  • Wyndham Vale
  • Tarneit
  • Derrimut
  • Hoppers Crossing
  • Mount Cottrell
  • Point Cook
  • Ravenhall
  • Rockbank
  • Truganina

Minister for Innovation, Medical Research, and Digital Economy Jaala Pulford announced a partnership with Optus and TPG Telecom to bring five new mobile towers and upgrade five existing towers to 5G through the Connecting Victoria initiative.

The Victorian Government released Connecting Victoria, a public engagement report, earlier this year. More than 11,000 people across the state voiced their desire for better mobile and broadband services.

The report listed mobile services as a critical need in Melbourne’s west to keep up with population growth and attain enhanced business, remote working, and community inclusion.

TPG Telecom Head of Infrastructure Strategy & Integrated Planning Paul Tremlett says “TPG Telecom is delighted to co-invest in mobile infrastructure and deliver 5G upgrades to Werribee and its surrounding areas in Victoria.”

The Government’s $550 million Connecting Victoria program is also fast-tracking improvements to mobile coverage and broadband access across the state.

Minister for Innovation, Medical Research and the Digital Economy Jaala Pulford says “Melbourne’s outer west is growing fast”

“We’re delivering upgrades and building infrastructure to support these communities – which will also boost the local economy and create more jobs.” said Pulford

Member for Werribee Tim Pallas says “These investments will help people live and work in the west in a different way.”

More projects in locations across the state, including regional cities, will be announced throughout 2022.
