CDIO Rob James to leave, new CTO role is created.

TPG Telecom will bring Giovanni Chiarelli into a new role as chief technology officer, with the CDIO Rob James group among three executives who will emerge under a major executive change.

The telco said it cut the number of executives from 11 to seven with the restructuring.

The big change from a technological point of view is a new executive who will control fixed and mobile networks, IT and digital functions.

Chiarelli – who left MTN South Africa last week as its chief technology and information officer of five years – will step into a newly-created CTO role from January.

TPG also said that its new business function would be “integrated into the consumer unit, led by group executive for consumer Kieren Cooney”, and that wholesale will be led by “Jonathan Rutherford, group executive of enterprise, government and wholesale.”

“As a result of the changes, Group Chief 0 Information Officer Rob James, New Business Development Group Executive Craig Levy and Wholesale Group Executive Dan Lloyd will leave the business,” TPG Telecom said in a statement. a note on its website.

TPG Telecom appointed Rob James as the group’s chief digital and information officer in August 2020, after TPG and Vodafone merged in a $ 15 billion deal.

James had been CIO of Vodafone and director of corporate enablement before then, and had joined the telecommunications group from Qantas, where he had been the group’s chief technology officer.

Managing director and CEO Iñaki Berroeta said James, Levy and Lloyd have “each made a significant contribution to the business, especially during the formation and integration of the merger.”

TPG Telecom’s new group executive

  • Chief financial officer Grant Dempsey (starting February 2022)
  • Group executive consumer Kieren Cooney
  • Group executive enterprise, government and wholesale Jonathan Rutherford
  • Chief technology officer Giovanni Chiarelli (starting January 2022)
  • Group executive people experience Vanessa Hicks
  • Group executive legal and external affairs and company secretary Trent Czinner
  • Group executive customer operations and shared services Ana Bordeianu

Berroeta said that Chiarelli “not only brings global network experience but also expertise in consolidating IT and technology systems.”

“By bringing networks and IT into the same department, we will create a better end-to-end technology experience for our customers,” Berroeta said.

TPG shares closed 1.3 percent weaker at $6.04.
