Leading hard drive data recovery company in Melbourne, “Recovery Squad” says data loss is a common problem that can occur in any organisation.

“It can be caused by various factors such as power outages, hardware failures, human error, software corruption, and natural disasters. When data is lost, it can have a devastating effect on the business,” it said.

The companies state-of-the-art facility is equipped with the latest technology and tools, allowing the recovery of data quickly and efficiently.

Data is the modern-day currency for businesses. For an individual, data also holds an important place in their life. People and businesses generate a lot of data every single day. Hence, it is natural for businesses and people to run out of digital space often.

To keep storing important business data and valuable personal data, end users often utilise portable storage devices like portable hard drives.

How Long Do Hard Drives Last? –  HDD Lifespan

The lifespan of a hard disk drive (HDD) can vary depending on several factors, including brand, type, size, and interface method.

n a groundbreaking study that spans over six years, researchers have analyzed data from more than 200,000 disk drives, revealing crucial insights into the lifespan of these crucial data storage devices. This study marks a significant step forward from the previous research which was conducted on a sample of 25,000 drives over four years.

The study’s results are staggering, with the survival rate of drives being higher than ever before. While the previous report indicated that only 78% of drives lasted beyond four years, today’s figures are much more encouraging, with almost 90% of the drives showing durability beyond this threshold.

These findings offer a crucial insight into the reliability of disk drives and are expected to have far-reaching implications for businesses, organisations, and individuals alike. With an ever-increasing reliance on data storage, the ability to accurately predict the lifespan of drives is of paramount importance.

According to the study’s lead researcher, these results are a testament to the advances made in data storage technology over recent years.

“The increased lifespan of drives is a testament to the quality and durability of modern disk drives,” they said. “It’s reassuring to know that the data we entrust to these devices is in good hands.”

However, according to findings by Backblaze, approximately 80% of the drives used in their infrastructure lasted for four years, while the remaining 20% failed earlier, with most dying in their third year of use. Therefore, on average, the lifespan of an HDD is around four years.

General steps to recover data from a hard drive

  1. Stop using the drive: If you suspect that your hard drive has been damaged or files have been deleted or lost, the first and most important step is to stop using the drive immediately.
  2. Determine the cause of the data loss: Before attempting any data recovery process, it’s essential to identify the reason for the data loss. If the data loss is due to physical damage to the hard drive, then the best course of action is to contact a professional data recovery service.
  3. Try data recovery software: There are various data recovery software tools available that can help recover lost or deleted files from a hard drive. These software programs can be used to scan the hard drive and recover the lost data.
  4. Use a live CD: If the computer won’t boot due to the hard drive’s failure, you can try using a live CD or USB. This will allow you to boot up the computer using the CD or USB instead of the hard drive, and you may be able to recover your data.
  5. Contact a professional data recovery service: If the above steps don’t work or you have a physically damaged hard drive, it’s best to contact a professional data recovery service. These services have specialised equipment and expertise to recover data from damaged hard drives.

Recovery Squad provides a wide range of services to help clients recover lost or corrupted data. With years of experience in the industry, the team at Recovery Squad is well-equipped to handle a variety of data loss situations, from accidental file deletion to hard drive crashes and hardware failures.
