Half Of Australian Admin Professionals Report Feeling Underappreciated

A new survey has revealed that half of Australia’s administrative professionals feel underappreciated and overlooked in their roles, despite being essential to the smooth running of workplaces.

The research, conducted by group gifting platform GroupTogether in collaboration with global admin network EA How To, surveyed 475 admin professionals across the country.

The results highlight the ongoing lack of recognition faced by those working behind the scenes in critical support roles.

According to the findings, 50% of respondents said they feel undervalued in their positions and 38% reported that they don’t consistently receive recognition on Admin Professionals Day, while 32% shared that they have never received a gift or any form of workplace acknowledgement.

Often described as the planners, problem solvers, and people-connectors of the office, administrative professionals play a vital role in daily operations. Yet the survey suggests that their contributions continue to fly under the radar in many workplaces.

A spokesperson from GroupTogether commented, “Every office has that one person who knows where everything is, remembers birthdays, and keeps things running like clockwork – often without so much as a thank you.

“This Admin Professionals Day, Friday 2 May, GroupTogether, Australia’s leading group gifting platform, is calling on workplaces across the country to celebrate the often-overlooked champions of office culture.”

The survey highlights that recognition for administrative professionals does not always need to be material or expensive. Many respondents indicated that even simple gestures such as a verbal ‘thank you’ or a personalised message can help them feel appreciated and valued in their roles.

To mark Admin Professionals Day and bring attention to the importance of recognition, GroupTogether will be distributing complimentary single-stem flowers in Sydney’s Martin Place from 8am on Friday, 2 May.

This initiative aims to acknowledge the contributions of administrative staff with what the company describes as “a small but thoughtful way to say thank you to the admin professionals who do so much, so often, with so little fanfare.”

Ali Linz, Co-founder of GroupTogether says genuine appreciation isn’t just nice – it’s smart business.

“When people feel valued, they stay, they care, and they lift up everyone around them. Admin Professionals Day is just a nudge to ensure people remember that,”

“At GroupTogether, we believe it’s time they got the recognition they deserve – not just on Admin Professionals Day, but every day.” said Linz

As organisations increasingly navigate the demands of hybrid and remote working environments, platforms that simplify team engagement are becoming essential tools.

GroupTogether, a digital service adopted by more than one million Australians, is emerging as a preferred solution for coordinating shared gifts and collective cards—especially among geographically dispersed teams.

The platform enables colleagues to digitally sign a group card and contribute to a pooled gift with minimal administrative overhead.

Among its most utilised features is the AnyCard, a versatile option that allows recipients to redeem their gift for a wide range of retail, experience-based, or luxury offerings.

From curated hampers to spa packages, the flexibility of the AnyCard is matched by the personal sentiment carried in each message from team members.

GroupTogether’s appeal lies in its ability to remove the logistical complexity often associated with workplace recognition initiatives.

“It’s a seamless way to bring people together, no matter where they’re located. The experience is both meaningful and efficient,” says a spokesperson for the company.

In the lead-up to Admin Professionals Day, GroupTogether is highlighting insights from recent workplace feedback, underscoring a broader trend: administrative staff continue to report feeling overlooked despite their critical contributions to team operations.

Through its offerings, the platform is encouraging employers to adopt more intentional and regular acts of appreciation.

By making group gifting frictionless and heartfelt, GroupTogether is positioning itself as more than a convenience—it’s becoming a cultural touchpoint for modern, empathetic workplace practices
