Frontline Turnover Tops 40% As Humanforce Launches Behaviour-Driven Recognition

Humanforce recently announced the launch of Rewards & Recognition, new capabilities within Humanforce Benefits that use workforce data and event-triggered automation to recognise and reward frontline employees for everyday behaviours that drive operational performance.

Humanforce has unveiled a new push into employee engagement, launching a behaviour-driven rewards system designed to tackle one of the most persistent problems in frontline industries: staff turnover.

The new “Rewards & Recognition” capability, embedded within its Humanforce Benefits platform, uses workforce data and automated triggers to identify and reward everyday on-the-job behaviours — from compliance to performance — in real time.

The aim is simple: reinforce the small, consistent actions that keep operations running smoothly, particularly in shift-based environments where disengagement can quietly erode productivity.

The move comes as frontline sectors continue to grapple with structural workforce instability.

While average employee turnover across Australian organisations hovers around 16%, industries such as retail and hospitality routinely see turnover rates climb beyond 40% — a gap that underscores the unique pressures of casualised, high-churn roles.

By tying recognition directly to behaviour rather than broad outcomes, Humanforce is positioning the platform as a more precise tool for retention — one that reflects how frontline work actually gets done, rather than how it’s traditionally measured.

“Frontline organisations are under constant pressure to improve engagement, retention and compliance without increasing operational complexity,” said Clayton Pyne, CEO of Humanforce.

“Recognition tied to everyday operational behaviours allows organisations to reinforce the actions that matter most,” said Pyne

“Too often, recognition programs sit outside the systems where frontline work actually happens. When actions such as attendance, task completion and teamwork are recognised in the moment, positive habits start to scale across the workforce.” he said.

Humanforce is also attempting to differentiate itself from the crowded recognition software market by tightly integrating its new offering into the systems frontline workers already use, rather than layering on yet another standalone tool.

Unlike many legacy platforms built with office environments in mind, the company’s Rewards & Recognition feature sits natively within its existing workforce management ecosystem, drawing directly on live HR and operational data.

The result is a system that can automatically flag and reward routine but critical behaviours — such as completing onboarding, arriving on time, or meeting compliance requirements — without the need for manual input from managers.

Delivered through the Humanforce Thrive employee app, the platform uses event-triggered automation to recognise these actions as they happen, shifting recognition from a periodic exercise to a continuous process.

It also allows for peer-to-peer acknowledgements, giving teams a more immediate way to highlight strong performance on the ground.

For employees, the system translates recognition into tangible rewards.

Points can be redeemed instantly for digital gift cards, while milestones such as birthdays and work anniversaries are tracked and acknowledged automatically — a feature designed to maintain engagement without adding to the administrative load on already stretched HR and operations teams.

“Traditional recognition programs usually sit outside the flow of daily work, which means they often fail in frontline environments,” Pyne said.

“By connecting recognition directly to operational data and automating rewards based on workforce events, organisations can reinforce the behaviours that drive engagement, performance and compliance.” he said.

Employee recognition is widely acknowledged as a powerful driver of engagement and retention. Gallup research shows employees who do not feel adequately recognised at work are twice as likely to leave their organisation within the next year.

“In fast-moving frontline environments, culture is built through the small daily moments, not annual reviews or a one-off instance,”

“When recognition is tied to everyday operational behaviours, organisations can turn compliance into culture.” said Pyne

Rewards & Recognition further expands Humanforce’s unified, AI-enabled HCM platform for frontline and flexible workforces, linking workforce data, automation and employee experience tools within the broader platform

Founded in 2002, Humanforce has a 2300-strong customer base and is heading towards one million employees under management.
