Claude.ai, the AI chatbot developed by Anthropic, experienced intermittent outages over the weekend, with disruptions first reported on Friday, 3 October, and continuing into Saturday, 4 October 2025.
The downtime impacted both the platform’s web interface and its API services. Users described being unable to initiate new conversations or receive responses, with access fluctuating between normal operation and sudden service failures.
Monitoring sites recorded a surge in user reports during the period. While Downdetector and other trackers now list Claude.ai as operational, outage maps and complaint logs indicate clear spikes in activity across multiple regions.
Anthropic has yet to provide a full explanation for the issues but confirmed that its engineering team is actively investigating.
A brief message on the Claude.ai site read: “Claude will return soon. Claude.ai is currently experiencing a temporary service disruption. We’re working on it, please check back soon.”

According to outage-tracking site Downdetector, problems were concentrated in Australia, with heat maps highlighting issues in Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth.
Reports describe users being unable to start new conversations or receive responses, with access fluctuating between normal operation and sudden downtime.

The downtime highlights the growing dependence on AI assistants for personal and professional use, with interruptions now carrying wider implications for businesses and individuals relying on always-available services. Further updates are expected as Anthropic works to stabilise operations.
