NBN Co awards contracts to Ventia, Service Stream, Fulton Hogan Utilities, and Downer EDI to undertake the task of upgrading one million homes and businesses to fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) services.
Under the government’s substantial $2.4 billion investment in the National Broadband Network (NBN), the contract awarded to Ventia will encompass a significant portion of homes and businesses, totaling to 1.5 million premises for the upgrades.
NBN Co entered into contracts for civil works and fibre deployment in various metro and regional townships, as well as suburbs across the country. However, the exact value of each contract has not been disclosed.
The broadband providers chief operating officer Kathrine Dyer says information on the final 500,000 FTTP premises will be released in the coming months.
Ventia also recently aquired a $280 million fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) upgrade contract from NBN, with work to start in July this year.
NBN subscribers who are currently connected via fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) or fibre-to-the-kerb (FTTK) have the option to upgrade to full fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) if they are on eligible plans.
