Shadow Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, Mark Coure has called out the Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology, Anoulack Chanthivong for reaching the milestone of 100 days without making any announcements for the sector.

According to the official record of NSW Government media releases, Minister Chanthivong has  not published a single media release since 26 February 20241.

Mr Coure said since coming to office the Minns Labor Government has time and time again failed to step up and make the essential investments required to support and develop a thriving innovation, science and technology sector here in NSW.

“For NSW to truly be a first-class state, we need vibrant and growing innovation, science and technology sectors, which will become drivers of economic growth and create the advanced jobs of the future.” Mr Coure said.

“From the Premier’s Department absorbing the functions of Investment NSW and the Office of the Chief Scientist and Engineer, to the yet-to-be-seen Innovation Blueprint and the cuts to several important innovation grant programs, Minister Chanthivong has been left without a voice in government.”

“The government’s lack of action shows that the innovation, science and technology sectors can’t rely on their silent Minister for leadership or support.”

“Under this government and this Minister, we will sadly see more and more lost opportunities, as new and emerging companies flee to other states who offer more competitive grants and supportive policy frameworks to help them grow and thrive.”

“Under this government, NSW is going backwards, and this Minister’s lack of vision, plans and  direction does not bode well for the future innovation, science and technology here in NSW.” said Mr Coure.

As the sector awaits much-needed direction and initiatives, the pressure mounts on Minister Chanthivong to break the silence and outline his vision for fostering innovation and technological growth in the region.
