Albury-Wodonga is the latest location to be served by Leading Edge Data Centres’ regional Australian rollout.

The scalable and secure Tier III data centre serving the Riverina region in NSW and Victoria, is expected to decrease network latency and increase internet speeds, thanks to a $7 million investment by Leading Edge DC.

Across the nation, the data centre operator plans to build 26 data centres, including Wagga, Coffs Harbour, and Bathurst in NSW and Shepparton, Bendigo, Ballarat, Geelong, Traralgon, Horsham, and Mildura in Victoria.

Leading Edge DC CEO Chris Thorpe says we are thrilled to offer Albury-Wodonga residents and businesses increased choice when it comes to fast internet and a direct cloud connection.

“It’s important for our metropolitan and regional communities to be digitally connected and to have equivalent capabilities.” says Thorpe

Schneider Electric vice president of segments and secure power Joe Craparotta says the digital infrastructure required for Australians for generations to come will be provided by the opening of this new data centre in the Riverina region.

“Schneider’s Tier III certified edge data centres have been built in accordance with Chris Thorpe and [Leading Edge DC’s] philosophy.”

“They are constructed for Australian conditions and designed to accommodate regional locations with sustainability and direct cloud access as a priority.” says Craparotta

The Albury-Wodonga facility was the first to be deployed as part of Leading-Edge DC’s data centre rollout using technology from Schneider Electric and the vendor providing the prefabricated data centre modules.

According to Albury City mayor Kylie King the new data centre has been considered as an “important milestone” for the region

“This facility will provide existing businesses with increased opportunities for innovation and growth, making our location more attractive to investors.”

“It will bring us up to speed with capital cities like Sydney and Melbourne and allow us to operate more effectively in a global market.” says King

In May Leading Edge DC also secured a $30 million equity investment from DigitalBridge Group for its rollout.
